etailo was set up in Cologne; Germany in the summer of 2007 by an experienced team of industry experts on the German retail cards market and established with Geschenkkartenwelt a completely new trading model as first movers in Germany. A few months later, in April 2008, Geschenkkartenwelt was launched in the German retail market.

In October 2008 started expanding into the markets of neighbouring countries. As a first step, Retailo Switzerland AG was founded in Thalwil in the Canton of Zurich. The company is a joint venture with Loyalty Service Holding AG, the leading Swiss company on the gift card market. Geschenkkartenwelt was launched in Switzerland in November 2008 and has been successfully active on the Austrian market since 2009.

Currently, the European market is adapted by Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
